DescriptionIvory casket with engraved silver mounts. Decorated with 15 reliefs, each depicting an amorous couple; on the lid 4, on the front 3 (the center one with a rose below a tablet with keyhole held by knight and lady), on each side 2 (the right hand with Tristan and Iseult watched by King Marke, and a couple playing chess). The silver straps engraved with long-necked dragons; engraved silver esutcheon over key-tablet, 16th-17th century. Panel and strap at left side broken.

NOTES:
[1] According to information provided by Premsela and Hamburger, the casket belonged to "Lord Talbot, one of the judges at the Trial of Joan of Arc" and was passed on by descent within the family to the Shrewsburys until a few years before the MFA acquired it.
