DescriptionOne of a pair of Chinese boys. Each of the Chinese boys is modeled as if marching or dancing, with one knee raised and the opposite arm extended. Each stands on a nearly rectangular base, which simulates rockwork and is encrusted with applied flowers. Both wear, over their black hair, leaf hats painted in green with puce veining. Their mouths are partially open (the mouth of 45a is actually a hole into the body), and their heads are turned slightly to one side. Light flesh tones have been applied to the checks, nose, chin, cars, and forehead. The eyes are painted in brown, and the eyebrows in black. Both boys wear cloaks over loosely fitting tunics that are open to the waist and yellow slippers. 45b wears a yellow cloak over a white tunic decorated With blue flowers and gilt foliage; the cloak of the other boy has been left white, and his tunic is decorated with puce flowers and gilt foliage. Their cloaks and tunics are bordered with gold. The applied flowers on the bases are painted in either yellow or puce, with green leaves.
