DescriptionThe bell is of circular section, with a widely flared lip tapering to a domed head under the handle, which is a replacement. The shoulder and sound bow of the bell are molded in relief with single bands of scrolling and beading respectively. Below these bands are solid lines of gold. The flared body is painted in puce camaieu with a river scene that continues around two-thirds of the bell. In the right foreground a woman wearing a long dress stands facing the river. To her left are some bushes and to her right some wooden pilings and a large basket filled with clothing. On the bank across the river from her is an inscribed pedestal surmounted by a tall urn. On the bank to her right stands another monument, this one with a rectangular base hung with a garland of flowers and a tapered upper section on top of which is a small urn. The river continues into the distance. A tree, a rock, and part of a fence are painted on the back of the bell. The interior of the bell is fitted with a porcelain loop, from which a metal chain and clapper are suspended.
