DescriptionThe candlesticks have a square base with rounded corners, incurved sides with leaf ornaments, and a complex molded profile. The base is cast in a single heavy piece, and the stem is cast in two pieces, seamed vertically. The baluster stem has a flattened knop rising to a flared octagonal midsection with leaf ornament at the top of the shoulder. The vase-shaped nozzle is surmounted by a detachable waxpan with a fluted border. The waxpans are fabricated from cut sheet, with applied wire moldings. The present crests are engraved over earlier engraving.

One mark under corner of each base, maker's mark GW (similar to Grimwade 927); lion passant; leopard's head crowned; date letter h.
InscriptionsARMORIALS: engraved on each base and waxpan, an unidentified crest, (out of a ducal coronet an elephant's head), apparently later, replacing previous engraving.
