DescriptionThe candlesticks rest on a flat base of shaped outline that is embossed with overlapping acanthus foliage. The stem is formed of three sections: the lower third consists of a cast disk of acanthus leaves above which rests an open calyx of four acanthus leaves; the middle section is formed by an inverted pear-shaped baluster knop that is chased with acanthus leaves; the nozzle is of a cluster-column design with small moldings at the upper and lower designs. The base of the candlestick is formed from a sheet, embossed and raised at the base of the stem. On both candlesticks there have been extensive repairs at the juncture of the base and the stem. The underside of the rim is strengthened by applied wire. The acanthus-decorated disk is cast. The stem of the candlestick screws into the pierced disk. The open calyx is cast, the baluster knop is raised and chased, and the nozzle is formed from a seamed sheet, with wire moldings applied at the top and bottom.
