DescriptionThe oval basket is boat-shaped with a dipped rim and rests on an oval spreading foot. The body and the foot are formed of sheet, and each has an applied beaded wire rim. The plain surface is ornamented with borders of bright-cut decoration. A high beaded bail handle is mounted on hinges on the long sides of the basket.
Marks On underside, maker's mark WP (Griwmade 3255) (struck twice); lion passant; leopard's head crowned; date letter l; sovereign's head.
InscriptionsARMORIALS: engraved on one side, the arms of Whipple, on the other, OAW in monogram, for Oliver (1744-1813) and Abigail Whipple (d.1827)
