DescriptionSopranino in E-Flat. Silver. Decorative engraving on bell, bell garland, leadpipe, and finger-rest mount. Eleven cup-shaped keys mounted on pillars. Adjustable tuning shank and original mouthpiece. Original mahogany case.

Provenance1854, commissioned of the maker as a presentation instrument for Joseph J. Brennan (1829-1900) by the Marietta (Ohio) Band, according to an inscription on the bell. Before 1989, sold by source unidentified at a flea market, Mansfield, Ohio, to Ron Chojnacki, Medina, Ohio; by 1989, consigned by Chojnacki to Sotheby's London; November 22, 1989, sold by Sotheby's London, lot 99, to the MFA.
