DescriptionCircular medal of Albert Victor Edward of Wales (1864-1892), commemorating his visit to London on 29 June 1885.
Obverse: Profile bust of Albert Victor looking to proper left in a wreath of roses and other plants; inscribed above ".H.R.H.PRINCE ALBERT VICTOR EDWARD OF WALES.", on bust "G.G.ADAMS. SC.", and below "BORN JANUARY 8TH 1864".
Reverse: Albert Victor standing at proper right extending his hand to Lord Chamberlain standing at proper left, who holds a miniature building, before the Lord Mayor behind a table with a sword and mace on top, flanked by Princess Alexandra at his right and the Prince of Wales at his left, and the arms of the city of London exergue; inscribed in English above "RECEIVING THE FREEDOM OF THE CITY OF LONDON JUNE 29TH 1885." and below "G.G.ADAMS.D.F.".
Original leather case, lined with fabric in two pieces and poor condition; inscribed on cover with gilded "IN COMMEMORATION OF THE VISIT OF/H.R.H. Prince Albert Victor of Wales, K.G./TO THE CITY OF LONDON/29TH JUNE 1885./THE Rt. Hon. Robert Nicholas [F]owler M.P./LORD MAYOR/JAMES WHITEBEAD ESQ.ALD/GEORGE FAUDEL PHILLIPS ESQ./SHERIFFS/RICHARD CLARENCE HALSE ESQ. CHAIRMAN OF THE COMMITTEE."; stamped on the inside in an oval "G G ADAMS/SCULPTOR/LONDON".
