DescriptionCream colored linen, solidly worked with wool in "Roumanian" or "Oriental" stitch (also called New England laid stitch). Design: on back and front conventionalized flowering plant worked in green, several shades of red and pink, yellow, blue, black, and white, the background worked in red and reddish brown. The letters "L.H." (probably Lemuel Hayward) and the date "1768" worked in green near the top. Divided into three compartments, and lined with glazed pink wool ("tammy"). Bound with pink woolen tape with an extra wide tie of yellowish green silk ribbon. Worn and eaten in spots.
