Illustrations of picturesque peasant figures. First edition; one of a series of pamphlets on art published the same year (see Thieme-Becker). The figures were cut after drawings by Meil. The essay on the history of woodcutters is by Wippel.

Provenance1837, illegible dated ownership inscription on title page. By 1898, Sylvester Rosa Koehler (b. 1837 - d. 1900; cf. Lugt 1580), Boston, and Littleton, NH; 1898, gift of Koehler to the MFA. (Acquisition Date: October 20, 1898)
NOTE:
Koehler was the first Print Curator at the MFA and served from 1887 until his death in 1900. He deposited the majority of his collection at the MFA in 1895-1896. The gift of Koehler's collection was accepted by the Trustees of the MFA on October 20, 1898.
