DescriptionNoh theater robe for female roles (karaori) of alternating color blocks of white and purple patterned with sails, pines and mist in blue, orange, green, purple, white and tan silk and concentric waves (seigaiha) in gilt paper. There is a red plain-weave silk lining.
ProvenanceKuroda of Fukuoka Collection. By 1915, Yamanaka & Co., New York; 1915, sold by Yamanaka to the MFA, through William Sturgis Bigelow, Boston, [see note 1] for $7500 [see note 2]. (Accession date: October 7, 1915)
