DescriptionDark blue. Intaglio. Convex front, flat back with inward back bezel. At left, a woman in profile facing right, supports a wounded man. She holds him around the torso, her hands clasped under his arms and around his torso. She has an archaizing hairstyle, and wears a long dress and a mantle. Her wounded charge is nude, and his right arm falls listlessly to the side and his head has rolled back. The bottom half of the gem has been broken off.
ProvenanceBy date unknown: with Edward Perry Warren (according to Warren's records: Bought in Rome.); December 1901: purchased by MFA from Edward Perry Warren
