DescriptionThe ring was found in the thieve's debris. The circular, deeply-cut, intaglio bezel features four lion's heads symmetrically arranged around a cental cobra with a sun disk. Several other rings were recovered from the tomb. Most interesting is the fact that several ring forms were included in the burial (cast signets, rings set with glass, gold sheet over metal cores).
ProvenanceFrom Meroe, Beg. W 333.1923: excavated by the Harvard University–Boston Museum of Fine Arts Expedition; assigned to the MFA in the division of finds by the government of Sudan.
