DescriptionMost likely a jewelry box stands on 4 legs and has a sliding cover with a knob. The wooden box is adorned with incised bone fastened by wooden pegs; the concentric circle decoration that covers the bone is very common in the Early Byzantine period and can be found adorning many of the objects of daily life.

Some strips missing and some broken.
ProvenanceSaid to be from Akhmim. 1903: purchased for the MFA in Qena, Egypt from Ghirgas by Albert M. Lythgoe for £6. Acquired with funds from the Emily Esther Sears Fund with additions. (Accession Date: January 1, 1903)
