DescriptionLinen and plain twill ground in about four pieces with wool embroidery; design of hillocks, one with broken tree trunk, sprays of large flowers, some quite realistic with highly ornamental foliage; piece added to left end embroidered with hillock with flowers, stag and strawberries; hillocks or mounds, berries, and leaves in New England Laid stitch (Roumanian Couching) and satin stitch (some flowers and leaves stitched in combination of New England Laid stitch and satin stitch), outline across top of mound in stem stitch, dark blue thin stems and outlines of leaves and flowers chain stitch and filled with star and link stitches, thicker beige stems and thin leaves in herringbone stitch, veins of leaves in branching stem stitch, green and white hillock with broken trunk filled with couched broken stem stitch; uneven lower edge bound with tape (added later)
