DescriptionThis sheet is one of eight extra plates made available for purchase "either plain or coloured" in January 1792 to owners of William Bartram's Travels through North & South Carolina, Georgia, East & West Florida, the Cherokee Country, the Extensive Territories of the Muscogulges, or Creek Confederacy, and the Country of the Chactaws. (Philadelphia: Printed by James & Johnson, 1791). The book had been issued with illustrations, but these eight extra plates were larger and could be added as folding sheets. Very few copies survive with the additional plates.

This appears to be a second state of the plate, as the original 1791 impressions do not carry the publisher's imprint of Philip Price, who is only known to have been active in Philadelphia after 1813.
