DescriptionA large Kashan star tile in the fully developed “Kashan style” painted in a red-brown luster. Inside the calligraphic border, probably of poetry, the tile shows two men in elaborate robes, apparently in consultation - since the painter, Abu Zaid, has placed their heads close together. Their faces, in reserve, stand out, as do the many white birds surrounding them in comparison to the rest of the densely decorated surface.
ProvenanceDenman Waldo Ross Collection; purchased by Ross from Dikran G. Kelekian, Paris, together with two other tiles (07.668; 07.669) for 3000 francs.
