Description(Paris [Delpech, 1819]) Oblong folio; 21 leaves; contemporary gilt-stamped half red morocco, red paper boards.

An album of 21 lithographs, with a title print ("Album litographique" [sic]) by Vauzelle with the imprint of Delpech. This title features an architectural border in moorish taste, with a view of a landscape in the distance. None of the twenty further plates carry any printer imprint; nine are dated 1818, one 1819. It is worth noting that the impression of the Gros lithograph in this copy is before the artist's signature. The plates in this album are as follows:

1) Vauzelle, "Album litographique" [sic]
2) Guérin, "Le Repos du monde," 1818
3) C. Vernet, "Famille arabe en voyage"
4) Lescot, "L'Aqua santa," 1818
5) Bidauld, "Le Troupeau"
6) Vauzelle, "Les pélerins bretons"
7) Demarne, "L'Abreuvoir"
8) Thiénon, "Vuë prise à Albano"
9) C. Vernet, "Les soins maternels"
10) Redouté, "Rose à cent feuilles"
11) Coupin, "Andromède"
12) Bourgeois, "Vue de Bagatelle," 1818
13) Bourgeois, "Vue du Chateau de Baugency," 1818
14) H. Vernet, "Mort de Tancrède," 1818
15) H. Vernet, "Chasseur africain," 1818
16) Lebas, "Fragments d'architecture antique," 1819
17) Lecomte, "Brigitte," 1818
18) Hersent, "Théocrite"
19) Jacob, "Hyppolite Reine des Amazones," 1818
20) Hersent, "Les baigneuses," 1818
21) Gros, ["Sheik mamelouk à cheval"]--Note: this is a proof before the added signature near the bottom

MFA owns another copy of this album (40.25) that probably is slightly later, judging from its having the Delpech imprint on the title and Gros's signature on his plate. The impressions in the present copy seem slightly fresher. The binding order in the two copies is very different. In addition, there is a related de Lasteyrie album in the collection, datable 1818 (54.1041).
ProvenanceLe Baron L. de Mauroy (name stamped on binding); W. G. Russell Allen, Boston (1882-1955), by whom given to the MFA, December 10, 1942.
