DescriptionPortrait bust with off-the-shoulder-length, wavy hair framing sitter's face; original ebonized wooden, stepped base. The surface of the bronze is highly textured by the mostly intact, small pieces of clay used to build up the figure. Areas of the subject's skin are finished with cross-hatching and stamping.

Incised "1948" and "BRUCE / MOORE" on shoulder of bust; "MODERN ART FDRY" stamped incuse along base of sculpture at rear.

ProvenanceCharles Withers had Moore's 1948 clay/plaster version cast by Modern Art Foundry. The bronze bust was given by Withers in 1959 as a wedding gift to his wife, Margret Craver.
