DescriptionThis reproduction of Anderson's wood engraving of 1818 (see MFA accession number M10459) was likely prepared for William James Linton, The History of Wood-Engraving in America (Boston: Estes and Lauriat, 1882), for which the image serves as frontispiece.
Linton's text was also serialized over the course of 1881 and 1882 in The American Art Review, which was edited by Sylvester Koehler, donor of the print and the MFA's first curator of prints.
