DescriptionTwo widths of material; red satin ground; large-scale chinoiserie design, one unit to a width; on left, hunting scene with man standing on back of dog riding towards leopards and rabbits under flower covered trellis; hunter on horseback in upper center; crouching hunter in center foreground; at right, couple seated in ball-turreted pagoda in center; lady and two servants in boat in foreground; variety of birds, insects, flowers in interspaces; originally one long panel cut at end of deisgn to match repeat horizontally; used as a wall covering, lots of glue and nail holes around edges; top edge, right, shaped.
ProvenanceAcquired in Europe by Adolph Loewi, Los Angeles [see note 1]; 1951, sold by Loewi to the MFA for $950. (Accession Date: June 14, 1951)
