DescriptionThe ground is of dark brown silk. The design of an eagle's head and curved bands of decorative Arabic inscription and flowers, is woven with white silk. A similar piece is owned by the Kunstgewerbe Museum of Berlin. 04.99 and is described by Julius Lessing as a silk stuff from Tabriz in Northern Persia in the 12th century. Another piece is owned by Kelekian in Paris. The larger pieces show a pair of eagles face to face on a background of branches. These are enclosed in three circles of Arabic inscription and floral ornament. The spaces between the circles are filled with animals, birds, palmettes, etc.
