Description(Amsterdam: Joan and Cornelis Blaeu, 1638) Folio; 56 leaves, plus engravings; contemporary vellum, rust cloth slipcase.
First French edition, published the same year as the first, Latin edition (Medicea hospes); a Dutch edition was issued the next year. They commemorate the ceremonial entry of Marie de' Medici (Louis XIII's mother) into Amsterdam. Includes early proofs of several of the engravings. The portrait of Marie after Honthorst is without caption and has an empty background. The Suyderhoef engraving after de Keyser's portrait of the Amsterdam burgomasters is included. Many of the plates are after designs for the ceremonial entry by Claes Moeyaert.
