With the rise of print media in Egypt in the 19th century came printing, in addition to books, posters. They often portrayed religious, political or literary scenes. This one centers Imam Ali, the Prophet Muhammad's nephew and the first Shi'i imam, battling an adversary.
DescriptionScene of two men on horseback fighting with swords; one man's leg is lost and he is waving it behind his head. Arabic text in black riqqa script describes the figures as Imam 'Ali bin Abi Talib and 'Amru bin al-Wadd al-'Amiri.
