This is a two-panel oil painting of Jackie Robinson, one of the first African American athletes to challenge the U.S. racial apartheid system in Major League baseball. The painting is constructed of found panels of corrugated roofing tin attached with nails. The recto surface is a pale-yellow background with Jackie Robinson in the center catching a baseball. The initials "J.R." are located in the upper proper right corner and Doyle’s signature is located across the bottom underneath the feet. Doyle would typically paint central figures first and then paint in the background.
