This coat is an example of wearable art made by textile artist Jean Cacicedo of Berkeley, California, who has been experimenting with the manipulation of wool and other fibers since graduating with a BFA in sculpture from Pratt Institute in Brooklyn. Made of wool that has been felted, overdyed, cut and sewn by hand, the coat was commissioned by the donor through Mobilia Gallery in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Supporting documentation for this coat includes the design drawing, wool samples, receipt, and correspondence with the Mobilia Gallery.
