Em Kettner’s small, focused works investigate everyday items that we might otherwise overlook. In this case, our attention is drawn to a common site of repose. The Twin Bed references both the American term for a single bed and the artist’s inclusion of two bodies within it. The delicate porcelain framework is bound together with cotton and silk thread—like muscle tissue adhering to a skeleton—on what the artist calls “a tiny tapestry loom.”
