This porcelain and thread work explores support systems. Kettner starts with the ceramic structure and weaves forms onto it. This form blends human and wheelchair silhouettes. It reflects Kettner’s interest in what they term the “the bedridden body” which is subject to illness, and the “hybrid body” that synthesizes with supportive, external elements in order to navigate disability. In doing so, Kettner nuances and complicates stereotypes about the disability community that often dehumanize and pathologize individuals.
