DescriptionThe design shows Syrian or Persian influence. Samite in 1/2 twill with red and white wefts creating pattern of diamond lattice made of serpentine vine enclosing heraldic birds. This piece was in the shape of a square medallion and sewed onto a garment. Pieces like this have been found at Akhmim, buried in the Coptic graves.
