This is the seal that the collector Weng Tonghe used to make an impression on this scroll. It was designed and carved by Wu Changshuo, a leading artist in late Qing dynasty China who had an extraordinary impact on both Chinese and Japanese art circles and also carved seals. The seal reveals a connection between the top national scholar Weng Tonghe (the seal owner) in the late 19th century and the most innovative artist of the time, Wu Changshuo (the seal carver).
