I and dear Wan-go and Huabao (Virginia Weng) are separated by thousands of miles. This autumn we met in Beijing over a hearty meal. They brought this precious object and asked me to inscribe it. So I added this inscription for the joyful gathering. September 1998, Miaozi

The elegant gathering at Laixi Residence is the grand occasion at the end of May, 1985. The figures in this painting were completed the following year. After four years, two scenic views were added, one in the front and one at the back.
Weng Wan-go records this at Laixi Residence, April 15, 1990.
萊溪雅集一九八五年五月末之盛事也。此圖人物成於次歲，閱四寒暑始補前後兩景。

The elegant gathering at Laixi Residence is the grand occasion at the end of May, 1985. The figures in this painting were completed the following year. After four years, two scenic views were added, one in the front and one at the back.
