President Reagan walks Chinese Premier Zhao Ziyang to his car after signing agreements for economic and scientific accords. The core of Zhao's mission was a multi-agenda 70-minute talk in the Oval Office. During the fast round of dinners, meetings, and interviews, Zhao, 64, scored points for sophistication, low-key manner and personal warmth as he withstood pro-Taiwanese demonstrations, and discussed Korean unification talks. Premier Zhao Ziyang was the highest-ranking Peking Official ever to visit the U.S. Said Zhao, "I come as a friendly envoy of the Chinese people for the purpose of seeking increased mutual understanding."
