JAMES MADISON, fourth President of the U. S. Served two terms - from March 4, 1809 to March 3, 1813 and from March 4, 1813 to March 3, 1817.


JAMES MADISON was born in Orange Co., Virginia on March 5, 1751. He had been Secretary of State under Jefferson and was chosen by the Republican party, receiving 122 of the 175 electoral votes; was re-elected by a large majority. The war of 1812 with Great Britain took place during his administration. He died June 28, 1836.
