THOMAS JEFFERSON, third President of the U. S. Served two terms - from March 4, 1801 to March 3, 1805 and from March 4, 1805 to March 3, 1809.


THOMAS JEFFERSON was born in Albemarle Co., Virginia on April 2, 1743. He was elected by the Jeffersonian or Democratic (then called Republican) party which he founded, and was re-elected almost unanimously. The "Louisiana Purchase" which gave to the United States the great empire beyond the Mississippi was made during his administration. He died July 4, 1826
