DescriptionBed valance cut and scalloped at sides, flat bottom, made of linen plain weave embroidered with polychrome wool (crewelwork); mostly Roumanian couching stitch especially in solid areas of leaves, fruit, and trunks of trees, flowers, and the yellow, blue and green ground area; stem stitch used for thinner branches and stems, outlines of fruit and flowers, and veins of leaves; buttonhole stitches for blades of grass; at center, near top, the date "1714" is worked in cross stitch with neutral yellow/green silk (now mostly missing).
