During the early twentieth-century Boston was a hub for American arts and crafts metaljewelryd jewerly. Boston jewelers like Frank Gardner Hale created a look that celebrated colorful gemstones and polychrome enamel. Thstyle includede included scrolling wirework motifs, leaves, and necklace - this necklace is a key example of pioneeredpoioneered by Boston artists. This necklace corresponds with an original watercolor drawing in the MFA’s Hale archive (SC.Hale.1-9). Executed in slightly different colors it sheds light on changes that may have happened between the design and fabrication of this work of art.
DescriptionGold necklace. The chain has two circular garnets. The pendant is composed of gold spirals and beads, two citrines and four garnets.
