JOHN PAUL JONES: born in Scotland, 1747; died at Paris, 1792; appointed first lieutenant of American frigate Alfred, 1775; with frigate Ranger captured British sloop Drake off English coast in 1778; commanded Bonhomme Richard in 1779 and captured the British ship Serapis in one of the world's greatest naval battles. Remains returned to United States in 1906 and interred at Annapolis.
