DescriptionYard goods; "Laotian Ikat," designed by Larsen Design Studio for Jack Lenor Larsen, Inc., manufactured by The Thai Silk Co. Ltd., 1972 - 1973. Thin floresent pink warp, weft predominately white though dyed intermintenly to create repeat pattern of banding:predominating pattern is horizontal 5" bands of orange diagonals leaning in and away against pink background, when this pattern repeats the diagonals shift to from in-out-in to out-in-out to create a zig-zag overall; two 1.5" symmetrical horizontal band combinations alternate between each organge and pink band: first, thin band of metalic gold and black followed by a wider band of pink, a equally wide band of white and blue diagonals, bank of pink and then metalic; second combination: three bands (yellowmetalic-yellow) of equal widths. Piece edges: 2 selvedges, 2 unfinished.
ProvenanceThe archive collection of Jack Lenor Larsen fabrics was initially given to the Minneapolis Institute of Art (MIA) by Cowtan and Tout in 1999. MIA chose the fabrics they wanted and forwarded the duplicates to the American Textile History Museum. Cowtan and Tout acquired Larsen Textiles in 1997.
