DescriptionJacquard woven picture of woman portraying Betsy Ross seated on a rocking chair on the porch of a house sewing a thirteen-star American flag. Beside her is a flax spinning wheel with no distaff or treadle, and there is a small cat and a saucer on the right. Scene was originally part of 1905 calendar that has been cut away. Woven along the bottom within the border, "Betsy Ross making the first United States flag" appears at center and "Anderson Bros/Paterson, N.J." appears at right. Produced for the Louisiana Purchase Exposition, commonly known as the St. Louis Worlds Fair of 1904.
