DescriptionA sugar bowl modeled as a large basket and cover, with the figure of an African woman standing beside it. Both basket and figure stand on an irregular base with leafy branches between. roots, twigs and lowers. The underside of the slightly concave base is incised with the date 1750. Figure wears a short skirt and turban and bends slightly at the wais with arms spread. Deep elliptical basket, domed cover has flowering twig handle. Compare 1988.581a-b, a related example of this design with enamel colors.
