By combining threads of variously colored glass, Venetian glass-blowers simulated chalcedony, a family of richly colored stones that includes agate and onyx. Glittering metallic inclusions added to the glass simulate aventurine, another gemstone. Thus the artist rivals nature in the creation of precious materials.
