DescriptionStanding male figure with hands raised to his head and preparing to balance a ball on his pursed lips or nose. The small horns atop his head, which are secured by thin bands wrapped around his torso, suggest the portrayal of a shaman.
ProvenanceBetween the 1940s and 1960s, acquired in Mexico by a private collector (d. 1969), Houston, TX; by descent to his granddaughter, Tucson, AZ; 2003, sold by his granddaughter to Anthropos Gallery, Los Angeles; 2014, sold by Anthropos to Timothy Phillips, Boston; 2019, gift of Timothy Phillips to the MFA.
