DescriptionA small cup or bowl in porcelain or pale buff fritware, its white slip coating painted in dark blue, starting outside with two concentric lines bordering the slip-coated center of the footring. In this area is a maker's or decorator's mark of a star. Two lines similarly delimit the lower border of the exterior design, while the rim is encircled by a delicate single line, which also extends downward to create eight panels (as in Chinese kraak ware) each containing a sunflower plant. A lighter blue is used as a wash to fill in the petals and leaves of the plants, first outlined in the darker color. Inside the bowl is a thin band of painted decoration, in four repetitions. The cavetto is undecorated. Inside two concentric lines, the well of the bowl is painted with a scrolling line surrounding a single sunflower.
