DescriptionTrumpet-shaped foot, wide circular base and wide drip pan at mid-point of stem.
InscriptionsModern engraving on base "Gov. Edward Winslow 1620".
Provenance[See note 1] By 1912, Franklin Randall, Bath Maine; about 1912, by inheritance to his niece, Anna Randall Taudien; 1937 sold by Anna Randall Taudien, Arlington Heights, MA, to the MFA for $300. (Accession Date: October 14, 1937)
Notes:
[1] According to Anna Randall Taudien, the candlestick had been in her family since the 1650s, purchased on the English art market by her ancestor Edward Winslow, Governor of Plymouth County.
The MFA cannot substantiate this claim. Similarly, the stylistic characteristics of the candlestick post-date it to Governor Winslow's 1620 voyage, according to MFA curator T. Albainy.
