DescriptionFrontal standing figure on open circular base, hollow cast in one piece and with an attachment pin inserted in its unfinished back. Carrying an open book upright in his right hand and a large key with a heart-shaped finial in his left, Saint Peter wears a belted tunic with wide sleeves buttoned at the neck and an open mantle that falls from the shoulders and is pulled across the abdomen, forming deep folds. His head is marked by a very full short beard and short straight hair thinning above the forehead except for two symmetrically placed locks. There is a large round cast-in plug resembling a tonsure on top of the head.
Inserted in the back of the figure is a threaded rectangular pin with a hole for attachment. Above are deep indentations. Narrow vertical indentations, probably for securing the object in place are found at the base. Set with St. Paul (56.264).

Provenance1446, possibly part of the baptismal font, St. Martin at Hall, Tournay [see note 1]. 1955, consigned by Gerard J. Stora to Raphael Stora, New York (stock no. C-140-3a-b); 1956, sold by Stora to the MFA for $3,100 [see note 2]. (Accession Date: April 12, 1956)
