DescriptionThe spoon has a fig-shaped bowl and a tapered hexagonal stem. The finial depicts Saint Philip holding a book in his right hand and a cross in his left. The bowl and stem of the spoon are forged from a single piece. The nimbus is lacking, and the gilding on the finial has been renewed.

December 2, 1949, Parke-Bernet Sale, New York, lot 75, sold to the MFA and purchased with the Theodora Wilbour Fund in memory of Charlotte Beebe Wilbour for $5,000 [see note 1].
