DescriptionThe spoon has a fig-shaped bowl and a tapering hexagonal stem. The finial depicts Saint James and Less holding a book in his left hand and a fuller's bat in his right. The nimbus is pierced. The stem and bowl are forged from a single piece. The finial and nimbus are cast and applied.
ProvenanceCharles G. Rupert, New York. December 13, 1947, Parke-Bernet, New York, lot 211, purchased by the MFA with the Theodora Wilbour Fund in memory of Charlotte Beebe Wilbour for $960 [see note 1]. (Accession Date: December 29, 1947)
