DescriptionThe pear-shaped pot rests on three feet in the form of dolphins' heads. A cut-card leaf is applied to the body at the juncture of each foot. The curved spout tapers to a dolphin's head at the opening; a line of oval beads is applied to the outside. The handle is S-shaped and modeled with auricular decoration, terminating in the head of a dolphin. There is a small wire eye on the front of the rim opposite the spout. The cover is stepped and slightly domed and the rim is decorated with an applied crimped wire. The finial is in the form of a bud, and a band of foliage is engraved on the cover around the finial. The body of the pot is engraved with a scene of a mounted hunter spearing an attacking lion, and on the other side with a hunter and a boar. The background is engraved with scrolling foliage. The body of the pot is raised. The handle and spout are cast in two sections and chased; the fabricated beaded decoration is applied separately. The cover is raised with an applied crimped wire around the rim and an applied wire bezel; the cast feet, thumbpiece, and finial are chased and applied.
