DescriptionThe shallow bowl rests on five columns rising from a stepped base. The foot is a circular pedestal assembled from several pieces of seamed sheet with bands of wire and twisted wire along the rim, and above, a row of applied quatrefoils. Five spiraled columns, fabricated from cast and wrought pieces, rest on the foot supporting the bowl. In two borders above and below the columns are horizontal bands of interlaced motifs. The raised bowls has a wide band of chased stylized foliage just below its rim. Overlapping this bond and in line with the columns below are five applied medallions, each set with five pieces of mother-of-pearl forming a rosette pattern. The medallions are secured by a threaded post soldered to the bowl and a nut, decorated with five garnets mounted in a cinquefoil.
Marks Just below the rim, maker's mark B.C. (Jones, p. 325); anchor; lion passant (repeated on each medallion with stones); date letter m (repeated on each medallion with stones).
InscriptionsEngraved around bowl, "From Lord Ilkeston to Sir Anthony Bowlby .C.M.G. "And stand indebted, over and above. In love and service to you evermore.""
