One of Britain's most versatile and influential designers, Dresser-educated in both science and design-was also a teacher and writer. A firm believer in theories and principles of design, he also sought to express on a more abstract level the power of nature. A pioneer of Modernism and arguably Europe's first industrial designer, Dresser embraced wholeheartedly the techniques of machine manufacturing, producing designs of great inventiveness for the decorative arts in all media.
